Identification of Asbestos in the Workplace
Essential information for Asbestos Register Controllers,
Managers, Supervisors,
Employees, Property Managers and Professional Tradespeople.
All commercial properties are required by legislation
to establish and maintain an
Asbestos Register where asbestos is in situ on the property. Under
the regulations,
a competent person must survey the subject property in order to
provide the relevant
data to be recorded in the Asbestos Register. This is done by surveying
materials used
in the construction of the building and plant, including checking
for what is held on the
property as debris, redundant stock and equipment.
It is important for all people who may come in
contact with the Asbestos Register or
who are required to Work with Asbestos, receive appropriate training
to fully
understand the potential health risks.
As a first step, Carters provide a free
on-line Induction Training presentation for
anyone in your organisation. This training is a valuable audio-visual
tool for providing
general information on Asbestos for all of your staff.
More formal training called Asbestos
Awareness - Level 1 aims to provide all
personnel with a greater level of knowledge and understanding of
Asbestos in the
Workplace, the associated health risks for staff, the role of the
Asbestos Register
Controller and the responsibilities of both the employer and the
employees.
The Level 1 training is a pre-requisite to Working
with Asbestos - Level 2 - The Blue Card.
This training course provides all relevant personnel with the skills
and knowledge that
they need to use the required control measures, personal protective
equipment, safe
work practices and emergency procedures when working on or near
