Training for Asbestos Supervisors

Asbestos Supervisors Training Course

All people who are supervising Asbestos Removal jobs, (Licenced Contractors) and
whose name appears as the “Supervisor” in the “Application to Remove Asbestos”
submitted to Safework SA, MUST have completed this course.

This course has been developed to improve/enable site supervision generally, on
Asbestos Removal jobs.

Although many companies had the necessary IS9001 Accreditation, or similar and
held the correct documentation, many “Supervisors” seemed not to fully understand
or carry out their responsibilities and obligations as required.

A committee comprising of various representatives from the asbestos industry put
together a simple but adequate course consisting of:

  • Legislation
  • OHS&W
  • Planning
  • Removal requirements
  • Site Set-up
  • Supervision
  • Pre-requisistes

The Asbestos Supervisors Course is of 10 hour duration either in one day or
two half day sessions.

The course provides participants with the skills and knowledge to Supervise and
Manage Asbestos Removal tasks and includes:

Module 1: Asbestos Awareness

Module 2: Working with Asbestos

Module 3: Supervisors Workshop (including Training Handbook)

At the conclusion of the workshop training participants are assessed for their
competency to supervise asbestos removal projects and to fulfill all pre-requisites.

The assessment is based on the actual documentation pertaining to a previous
removal job as provided by the training participant (from beginning to end),
looking at all the "what if" scenarios and how they would have handled them in
a real situation.

The aims, objectives and outcomes of this course are to ensure that all Asbestos
Supervisors strive to meet a standard industry benchmark.

Successful training participants are provided with an Asbestos Supervisors
Certificate which is valid for two years. Participants who can not demonstrate
supervisory experience in the assessment phase are provided with an
Asbestos Supervisors Statement.
